Fuel cell studies involve the characterization of the membranes on which the oxygen reduction and the fuel oxidation will occur. The catalytic properties of the materials can be studied by a range of voltamperometric methods. Fuel cell studies can also require instruments with higher power and fuel management in case the materials are being tested within a cell.
Inversely, local electrochemical imaging techniques can be used to push the understanding of catalytic properties to a lower scale.
